My Buddha Journal (“we”, “our”, “us”) provides a journaling and study tool for daily reflection on the Dhammapada. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website and mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to operate your account and provide the journaling features of the app.

Information you provide

Email address (used for login and account identification)
Journal entries you create inside the app
Optional notes or preferences you save

Information collected automatically

Basic device information (IP address, browser type, operating system)
Cookies used for login sessions
Authentication tokens provided by Auth0
Your reading position, so the app can reopen on the verse you reached

We do not collect your contacts, photos, location, microphone, camera, or any other device data.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information only for the following purposes:

To authenticate your account through Auth0
To store and display your journal entries
To provide Dhammapada verses and related reading content
To remember which verse you are on, so the app opens where you left off
To maintain app functionality and security
To improve performance and reliability

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or resale.

3. How Your Data Is Stored

Your data is stored securely using:

Microsoft Azure (for journal entries, reading position, and app data)
Auth0 (for authentication and identity management)

All communication between your device and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.

Your journal entries are private to your account and are never shown to other users. The blog on this site is written by the site’s author only; nothing you write in your journal ever appears there.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on trusted third-party providers to operate the app:

Auth0

Used for secure login and identity management.

Microsoft Azure

Used for hosting, data storage, and backend processing.

We use the Reddit advertising pixel to measure how well our ads on Reddit work. It loads on every page and tells Reddit that a visit happened, along with the usual technical details a web request carries, such as your IP address, browser and the page address. It has no access to your journal.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — which pages people visit, how they arrived, and roughly where in the world they are. It loads on every page and sets its own cookies, described in section 5. It has no access to your journal.

These providers may process limited technical data (such as IP address or authentication metadata) as part of their services. They do not have access to your journal content.

We do not sell your information or share your journal entries with advertisers or data brokers. The Reddit pixel and Google Analytics described above are the only third-party tracking technologies on this site.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies for:

Login sessions
Remembering your authentication state
Basic site functionality
Measuring our Reddit advertising, through the Reddit pixel
Understanding how the site is used, through Google Analytics

Google Analytics sets cookies whose names begin with _ga, which let it recognise the same browser on a later visit, and it receives the page address, the page that referred you, and general device and location information. It is not given your email address or anything you write in your journal.

We also keep a simple count of how many people reach our welcome page and how many go on to be sent a login code, so we can tell whether the app is finding an audience. This uses no cookie and stores no IP address: each visit is recorded against a one-way, daily-rotating code derived from your connection, which lets us count people without being able to identify them or recognise the same person from one day to the next.

Nothing you write in your journal is ever passed to an advertiser or to an analytics provider.

You may disable cookies in your browser, but some features may stop working.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Access the information we store about you
Request correction of inaccurate information
Request deletion of your account and journal entries
Export your journal entries
Contact us with privacy concerns

7. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:

Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
Secure authentication through Auth0
Restricted access to user data
Regular security updates

No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information.

8. Children’s Privacy

My Buddha Journal is not intended for children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
